Description
Barrel C310 is a beautiful expression of Indiana whisky giant MGPs higher rye mashbill. Made of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, this barrel was aged for six years at Prohibition Craft Spirits Louisville distillery before bottling without chill filtration at a barrel strength of 116.2 proof. For such a high rye bourbon, the nose is surprisingly sweet with notes of vanilla buttercream frosting, toffee brittle, and chocolate-y oak backed by a hint of grassy rye spice. The palate opens sweet and fruity with citrusy flavors of orange and lemon turning to caramel and brown sugar on the middle of the tongue. The end of the sip shows this bourbons high rye content with black pepper, cinnamon, and clove mingling with some chocolate and oak. The spice remains throughout the medium length finish and is joined by espresso and baking chocolate, a wonderful counterbalance to the sweet citrusy opening of the sip.
