Description
Freedom of the Press is an “urban winery” on a hill in the Cotswolds. I believe the original plan was to create an urban winery in Oxford, with no vineyards. The owner, Gavin Carver decided he just wanted to buy the best grapes from the best sites – in much the same way a micro-brewery or boutique distillery would operate. Unfortunately Covid happened in Spring 2020 and all the best laid plans fell through. Happily he found a new site in the Cotswolds and has been making top quality wines there ever since.
A winery without vines might sound a bit odd but in truth, it is nothing new. There are two distinctly different processes in wine production; vines needing to be tended and nurtured and then the transformation of them into wine.
Gavin sources the fruit from vineyards in Essex, an excellent location that is attracting much interest and excitement in the industry for the production of superb still wines.
