Description
Ashleigh Barrowman is a wine producer making wines in Marlborough, New Zealand, using natural and organic disciplines. These wines have been made as part of an incredibly limited production with only 51 cases of the Chenin Blanc available, and 21 of the Chardonnay. She uses tarot cards to depict the varietals on the labelling – the Queen of Cups, the Queen of Swords and the High Priestess, each depicted meticulously through bright and colourful stain glass window illustrations.
The Chardonnay depicts the Queen of Swords on its label – the Queen of feminine intellect and wisdom, a stern and emotionless character. Whilst stern in flavour and texture, this wine is certainly not emotionless, with crisp acidity piercing through and burst of vibrant citrus fruit evoking all kinds of thoughts and feelings, rounded off with a soft, buttery mouthfeel. The use of ageing in old barriques lends further depth of flavour and texture, whilst not overwhelming the fresh; fruit-led taste.
