Argentinas reputation in the wine world has been built upon taking some of the most well known French grapes (and, the lesser known, like their signature red Malbec) and crafting a wine that honors the grapes but also showcases a New World style. The Alto Verde takes the most popular French white grape, Sauvignon Blanc, and puts a lovely Argentinian flair on it.
This wine is made in the Uco Valley, which is in the southwestern part of Mendoza. Mendoza is the countrys signature wine region, very similar to how Napa Valley might be considered here in the United States. The Uco Valley is at the base of the Andes Mountains giving it access to some of the mountainous soils, and giving it a lot in common with many of the great wine regionsof the world.
In particular, this Sauvignon Blanc has more in common with the French style of winemaking, crisper and more refreshing. The fruit is nicely balanced and the wine quite elegant. It is a great pair for fresh seafood, especially with a hint of fresh citrus.
