Yalumba is Australia’s most historic family owned winery.
Located near the town of Angaston, South Australia in the Barossa Valley wine region, Yalumba was founded by a British brewer, Samuel Smith, who emigrated to Australia with his family from Dorset in 1847. He purchased a 30-acre estate and named his property “Yalumba” after an indigenous Australian word for “all the land around”. In 1849 Samuel Smith, along with his son Sidney, planted Yalumba’s first vineyards, beginning the Yalumba dynasty. Today Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family-owned winery.
Roussanne is a particularly underrated grape hailing originally from the Rhone. Here, it is silky and aromatic with vibrant aromas of mandarin, apple pie and fennel, with a distinct nuttiness on the finish. It is elegant and would be a great wine to pair with a creamy pasta dish.
